Do we have earthquakes in South Woodham Ferrers?

Some of the residents of South Woodham Ferrers and Bicknacre were awoken from their sleep on Thursday 9th of February by a deep rumbling at about 5am. A few felt their houses shake, most slept through it and were unaware of a minor earthquake of 2.6 on the Richter Scale with its epicentre 8km below the fields opposite the entrance of RHS Hyde Hall.

Small earthquakes are common all over Britain. It is extremely rare that anyone should hear or feel them.  It isn’t something to be concerned about. This particular one just caused a ripple of excitement.
